It is my sincere pleasure to nominate Angela Ballasiotes for Celebrating University of Washington (UW) Women. Angela manages the UW Mathematics Academy and leads the outreach and recruitment for the College of Engineering.
Simply put, Angela brings energy, compassion, organization, and creativity to our team of over 12 employees. She entered the College in 2013 and took over the UW Mathematics Academy, the College’s flagship summer program for high achieving, underrepresented population high school juniors. With her knack for planning and student advising, she has thrived in her position.
During her first month on the job, Angela began giving recruitment presentations at local high schools. She recruited an outstanding class; we expect that nearly all of the students will be admitted to the UW this year! Moreover, the summer program went off without a hitch. She organized, planned, and implemented the complex program, only six months after starting in her role.
Angela goes above and beyond her daily responsibilities to help the team. This year, she helped to raise $20,000 for the Math Academy from F5 Networks and the RealNetworks Foundation. She also volunteered to be the staff advisor for a new student organization, the Engineering Ambassadors. Next month, she will travel with the group to a workshop at Oregon State University.
More than anything, Angela has a passion for students. She genuinely cares about students and seeks to help them navigate the successes and challenges of college, and engineering.
