In an era where communication technology rules the world, I have been particularly impressed by the work of Dr. Araba Sey. Through her research, she has shed more light on the importance of communication technology as a panacea for development in the developing and underdeveloped world context. Her efforts have led to a general improved awareness of a possible “digital divide” which could further worsen the already deplorable condition many in undeveloped areas are facing.
Bearing that in mind, many telecommunications giants and national governments (especially in Ghana) have created a favorable atmosphere (in terms of financial implications) for low income earners to have access to communication devices. I believe Dr. Sey deserves to be recognized for her wonderful contribution to academia, bridging the gap between the poor and wealthy and enhancing the image of a great academic citadel like University of Washington.
