Leaving for college is a scary and exciting time for many students; trying to make that institution feel like home can be even more daunting. This is where Marisa truly excels; through Marisa’s work as Director of the Ethnic Cultural Center, a “home away from home” has flourished, in spite of difficult obstacles.
Marisa helped to guide the ECC through its temporary move to Condon Hall, continuing to maintain a community atmosphere in spite of the limitations of the space. When the beautiful new facility opened, she took that vision of home and community a step further, and has been instrumental in building and strengthening partnerships across campus to ensure that our students are able to find home in a variety of places, whether the ECC, the Q Center, or the residence halls. Her vision of partnership and holistic service to students makes her a fantastic campus partner to serve with, and I am pleased to recognize Marisa as one of the UW’s truly outstanding women.
