I would like to nominate Acquanda Stanford for recognition as an influential woman at the University of Washington. Acquanda is a Teacher’s Assistant for my anthropology class, which studies the concept of Identity. She has inspired me to pursue further knowledge and research outside of class and in my own personal life. When she teaches and leads our discussions, she emits such passion about the subjects, that it really challenges the students and excites us to engage in understanding important topics about identity. She’s also very dedicated to her own research of Black Women’s Breastfeeding and understanding the effects of oppression on black women’s health and families. Through her research, I truly believe she will make great strides in minimizing both the gender and racial gap in our society. Additionally, her discussions as a Teacher’s Assistant will inspire other students, like myself, to engage in their own research and actions to minimize those gaps as well.
